Exchange rates got silly

During my time around the internet i purchase alot of digital products (webhosting, software etc) from sites based in the united states mainly due to the exchange rates. Around a month ago i could change £1 of my UK pounds into nearly $2USD. Using webhosting as an example i could in most cases get a better deal with a US site rather than a UK site all because of the brilliant exchange rate.
Well that is looking a thing of the past, as of this moment my £1 now only gets me $1.56, now that is just plain silly. My webhosting is costing me more and any other digital product i require. So whats happening, someone enlighten me?
Obviously where they are losers they are winners, so if your currency is USD and you purchase digital products from the UK then it just got alot cheaper for you but i for one hope the rates go back to where they was a soon as possible, its crippling me.
